Every year since 2013, the Volvo XC60 has earned the title of an IIHS Top Safety Pick+, and the latest iteration is no exception. This luxury vehicle was built with an emphasis on safety and utilizes Intellisafe features to provide greater peace of mind with the driving experience. Two notable technologies include City Safety and Adaptive Cruise Control.

The power of electricity will be the law of the land for Volvo before too long. Volvo announced that it plans to abandon the combustion engine by 2019 to make way for electric vehicles.

Volvo noted that it will keep manufacturing gas vehicles, but we should expect to see them phased out over time.

While many manufacturers have dipped their toes into the pool with electric models, Volvo's decision to go fully-electric and put the past behind it makes it the first major automaker to make this push.

Automobiles have relied on the internal combustion engine for over a century. Volvo is the first manufacturer to decide that they will give up on the traditional engine design and make their entire vehicle lineup hybrid or entirely electric by 2019. This decision was influenced by the inevitable move from the automotive industry shifting towards electric engines.

Luxury and innovation have always been central components of the Volvo design philosophy. Crafting vehicles that seamlessly integrate technology and provide their drivers with premium comfort and unobtrusive utility is practically a hallmark of the Volvo brand. And now the Swedish automaker is going further than ever to make the luxury car of the future, partnering with the search giant Google to build the next generation of Volvo vehicles.
