Automobiles have relied on the internal combustion engine for over a century. Volvo is the first manufacturer to decide that they will give up on the traditional engine design and make their entire vehicle lineup hybrid or entirely electric by 2019. This decision was influenced by the inevitable move from the automotive industry shifting towards electric engines.
Volvo will introduce five new vehicles to their lineup between 2019 and 2021, two of them coming from the Volvo-owned company Polestar. There aren’t too many details about the vehicles yet, except that they will all be hybrid or electric vehicles. By already planning their electric vehicles, Volvo is making sure that they can give drivers better refined vehicles by the time the rest of the market turns towards electric vehicles.
