Hands down, Volvo came out on top this Super bowl with their "ad." Volvo decided to intercept all of the other car commercials this year with their aptly named campaign "Volvo's Greatest Interception Ever." Their campaign focused on their human-centric philosophy, and encouraged people around the country to nominate people they cared for to win a free Volvo XC60 via social media.
The campaign was wildly successful as the company earned the top spot as the most tweeted brand during the big game with 52,000 mentions around the country! Their video quickly gained over 2 million views, bringing well-deserved attention to the brand. Instead of potentially paying $4.5 million for a commercial, Volvo changed the game with this human-centric campaign. There was an out-pouring of people nominating, friends, families, and even babysitters. It was a unique brake for the norm as other ads focused on promoting and encouraging people to buy new cars.
