Electric vehicles are becoming more and more popular here in Alpharetta, GA and beyond. And, as such, automakers have their proverbial game faces on trying to perfect the technology in new and exciting ways.

Well, for Swedish automaker, Volvo, it seems that success is sure. Specifically, Volvo has managed to successfully study wireless charging systems for EVs and concurrently, fully-charge its pure-electric Volvo C30 in just two and a half hours!

"Inductive charging has great potential. Cordless technology is a comfortable and effective way to conveniently transfer energy. The study also indicates that it is safe," says Lennart Stegland, vice president of Electric Propulsion System at Volvo Car Group. "There is not yet any common standard for inductive charging. We will continue our research and evaluate the feasibility of the technology in our hybrid and electric car projects."1

The way cordless, inductive charging works is by using an electromagnetic field to transfer energy between two matters. It is similar to that used in home appliances (that use electricity, also) like electrical toothbrushes. However, it is not yet available for EVs, though we at North Point Volvo would be quite excited if our favorite automaker was the one to make it so.
