Last fall, Volvo introduced the acclaimed XC90. It was the first model on the company's new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA). Last month, the S90 sedan was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit to great fanfare. Today, Volvo introduced the third model on the SPA platform, the highly anticipated V90 wagon.
The stunning design language of the new premium wagon is mirrored by the luxurious aesthetic of the interior. A Sensus-powered large vertical display sits proudly in the center, and a fully digital instrument panel provides an impressive backdrop for the minimalist three-spoke steering wheel. Wood trim and metal speaker grilles provide stylish accents.
The powertrain is expected to mirror the options of the V90's SPA siblings. Additionally, Volvo will offer a T8 plug-in hybrid option.
“In many people’s minds we are known as the definitive estate [wagon] brand,” Volvo president Hakan Samuelsson said in a statement. “While the Volvo brand today stands for more than estates, we are proud to carry forward this rich heritage with the V90.”
The V90 will make an appearance at the Geneva Auto Show next month, and has an expected release date of late 2016.
