When you think of the Volvo brand, you think first about the automaker's long legacy of producing safe and reliable models. It is not likely that you associate the brand with making muscular performance cars that are capable of record-setting power and speed, but you may be singing a different tune after reading what we have to share with you today.
Volvo's performance company is the Polestar brand, who recently look they 4.4-liter V8 engine and transformed it into a 5.0-liter V8 with a 10.1 compression ratio. This powerhouse was exclusively designed for the V8 Supercar racing series taking place in Australia.
While the Swedish automaker is remaining tightlipped about just how much power and speed the new V8 engine will attain, experts estimate that it will generate a massive horsepower between 620 and 650. This essentially doubles the 311 horsepower output of the 4.4-liter engine, which is a major accomplishment as the 5.0-liter has been naturally aspirated and not turbo or supercharged.
