Just last month, Volvo introduced two new concept vehicles called the Concept 40 series. These vehicles are unique for two reasons: they’re the first models to be built atop Volvo’s new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), and they introduce Volvo’s small car strategy, which will include a pure battery electric vehicle as well as Twin Engine plug-in hybrid powertrain variants. This is in line with the company’s commitment to the eventual electrification of the entire Volvo lineup. Take a look at the video below for further information on these great new concept vehicles.
The two concept models unveiled represent a Sedan model (Volvo Concept 40.2) and an SUV model (Volvo Concept 40.1), both of which are built atop the CMA platform. This platform gives engineers and designers much more flexibility when it comes to varied designs and building both taller and shorter vehicles. The aesthetic design of the models reflects a more youthful approach, at once certifiably “Volvo” in appearance, as well as a deviation from what one might expect.
