First introduced in the early 2000's, the Volvo XC90 had no problem working its way to success, becoming a top-selling model for several years here at North Point Volvo and at other dealerships across the United States due to a timeless design and utility that exceeds expectations. Now, the automaker is seeing that the XC90 in the next generation will be even greater than any of the predecessors with new platform and engine technology.

The new platform, made with Volvo's new Scalable Product Architecture, will offer more versatility for further derivations. One of the primary focusses was decreasing the weight; Volvo engineers worked long and hard to come up with a platform that utilizes much more aluminum in its construction. Incorporated into the front structure, doors, and drivetrain components, the next-gen XC90 will weigh up to 350 pounds less than the current model. Prepare for a smoother, more responsive ride than ever.

They're also going to exlusively use a new four-cylinder engine based on the Volvo Engine Architecture. No longer will five-, six-, or eight-cylinder engines be an option, as the four will offer better performance and fuel consumption than even a modern six. As part of a hybrid system with a kinetic energy recovery system similar to those used in F1 racing vehicles, up to 20 percent less fuel will be spent when in operation. It's said the vehicle's acceleration will increase, to boot.

While we won't be seeing this vehicle's new look until the 2015 model year, you can still come down to our Alpharetta, GA dealership and check out all the new Volvo models we have in the current lineup.
