All of the new Volvo models we have here at North Point Volvo offer the comfort you want, the performance you need, and features and amenities to keep you getting the driver's seat with a grin on your face. But, of all the features offered, one of our favorites is the Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system, and we aren't the only ones, as it seems to be taking the Volvo world by storm.
The automaker has recently announced that the one millionth car outfitted with the AEB has hit the road, with most of these vehicles having the system come standard. This is a big milestone for the Swedish company and one more step towards their goal to never have anyone perish within their vehicles after the year 2020. That's an even bigger goal but we truly believe they can do it!
The system is called City Safety, and what it does is stop the vehicle should an obstacle be detected within the path of travel. Cyclist Detection has also been integrated into the system, widening the safety spectrum even further. The driver is first warned with an audible and visual signal; then, should the obstacle not be avoided, the vehicle will take the situation into its own hands (or should we say wheels?) and apply the brakes if the speed is greater than 20 mph.
Soon ,the dream of a self-driving vehicle could very well become a reality; with safety like this already existing and working so well, it's not that radical of an idea. Until then, however, come on down to our Alpharetta, GA dealership and take a look at something equipped with the AEB system for yourself. If you like how it looks, take it out for a test drive and get an hands-on experience that you won't soon forget.
